In the meantime, here’s the rundown on what we, and our fine friends, neighbors and colleagues, have been getting to eat lately.
Alden’s birthday cake – the much anticipated homemade funfetti in four layers
Nicky’s Vanilla Cake
Nicky is Ruth Reichl’s son, and this cake is from her book, Garlic and Sapphires
All the rest of these are from the Dorie Greenspan:
Coconut Orange Tea Cake – two times, once a non dairy version.
Lots-of-Ways Banana Cake
Nutty Chocolaty Swirly Sour Cream Bundt Cake – three times
Apple Coconut Family Cake
note: this batter does not go with the apple-coconut family cake just mentioned. I just wanted to end with an action shot, so to speak.

I am really glad to see thesde documented before we forget about them. But ... Where in the pluperfect is the commentary?! Since there is none, I will take a stab:
1: Funfetti in Four Layers - Great title, but I managed to skate on this one and didn't have a single piece.
2: Nicky's Vanilla Cake - Will Marcum had some, but I don't think I did. Clarissa says I did - says it was a 'comfort cake'
3: Lot's of ways Banana Cake - The titles are really what I am impressed with here. Do people really name their cakses so extravagantly? You know, some of these cakes go stright out the door, and never come back, because Clarissa is one of these legendary professors who bake cakes for their students. There have been like two others in the entire history of academia, and the last one died in the beginning of 1929, before the crash.
4: Nutty Chocolaty Swirly Sour Cream Bundt Cake - Can't skate on this one, since she did it thrice. Yummy! But nothing like ...
5: Coconut Orange Tea Cake. Hands down winner of all contests. These cakes can hardly cool before they are inhaled by bystaders and shop loafers, who generally return for thirds and forths. By contrast, the
5: Apple Coconut Family Cake was good, but involves flavors that sort of mush together to make 'brown', rather than enhance one another as in Coconut Orange Tea Cake. Good cake, but really just another ... cake. Life is rough, eh? eh?! eh?!!
My goodness...it sounds like nothing but a crazy frenzy of cake baking and eating at your place. What fun!
A bit more commentary does seem to be in order. I mean, how can one toss out the word "funfetti" and leave it at that?
The coconut orange tea cake jumped right out at me. I must find that recipe because it sounds absolutely perfect!
